Healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs) are those infections that patients acquire while receiving health care at a hospital. These are amongst the most common complications of hospital care, leading to high morbidity and mortality. According to research conducted by the Agency for Health care Research and Quality in 2018, India has a very high incidence rate of 40.1 infections per 1,000 ventilator days. This is mainly because of the existence of harmful bacteria, viruses such as Staphylococcus aureus, E Coli MRSA, Salmonella, etc.
